Text Box: Cyprus Observer by Ozcan Ozcanhan
Text Box: I first meet Ersin Öztoycan in the Ledra Palace UN area of the buffer zone, when the new UN spokesperson José Diaz met members of the media. It was then that I learned that she worked for the UN mission in Cyprus and she then helped us to find the offical residence of Mr. Moller (Head of UN Mission) for the Christofiyas -Talat meeting. While we chatted, she mentioned a book about her own life in black and white on paper.
Now I have that book in my hands. ‘My Life File’. As I go through the pages, I cannot help but admire the plain, intelligible language. Although the writer complains about having dyslexia, and explores difficulties and problems that she faced as a child in Britain and later in Cyprus, she has produced an exmplary piece of work to be read with intrest and pleasure.
My congratulations go to this talented housewife and all those friend who helped her.
She has shed light on British, Greek and Turkish Cypriot cultures and behaviours. Her humanistic approach and style, her openness and frankness in revealing her own secrets, adds flavour to reading the book. Her comments on the Cyprus problem, the way of life of the two communities of the island, the battle with cancer, the hardships and joys of life....and more... Are vividly reflected by Öztoycan in ‘My Life File’ written by an amature book writter—herself.
Admiration, coupled with congratulations, is what Ersin Öztoycan, Chairperson of the North Cyprus Dyslexia Association deserves.
